When I bought Jimmy D. Brown's Membernaire course, I'd never belonged to a membership site, I was relatively new to internet marketing, I had a vague idea for a couple of BIG fiction writing courses I wanted to create, and I had absolutely no idea how to move from my ideas to having real, working courses that would allow me to teach what I wanted to teach and get paid for it.

He teaches you how to create what's called a Fixed-Term Membership site---this is one where people join for a specific length of time to get a series of lessons that will teach them a specific skill. In my case, using my Membernaire lessons, I built one course that teaches novel writing and a second that teaches novel revision. So far, anyway. The more I do this, the more ideas my students give me, and the more ideas I come up with on my own.

Brown covers writing and creating your course, and he does it in depth, step by step, and with clear, intelligent instructions. If that were all the course covered, it would be useful. But Membernaire also includes traning on marketing your course, figuring out what to put in it, brainstorming course ideas if you know you want to do something but you have no clue about what.

He covers membership retention, cross-promotion, upsells like coaching (not something I have the time for, but I'm keeping it in mind for if I ever retire from writing my own novels), problems and troubleshooting, outsourcing, ghostwriting (this for folks who hate to write, and not something I'd expect to be of particular interest to folks coming here), getting new subscribers, and more.

He offers lesson templates, email swipe files, customer service training, setting up your website, and great info on how to use the absolute minimum you'll need in software and services. It's a complete package, a full one-year training course that has been indispensable for me.

I followed his lessons, I worked hard, and in four months I had a full-time income coming in that has been allowing me for the last two years to write my novels without having to wait for publishers to pay me before I can pay bills (a scary proposition if you've never done it).

I could have been up and running faster if I'd followed his method exactly. He says you can set up your own membership site in 48 hours, and if I weren't A) a control freak, and B) passionately in love with bells and whistles, I could have. Even with my limited internet marketing skills, his instructions were clear and simple, and I could have run with them.

(I wanted fancy membership site software. THIS, my friend, takes time.)

You could follow his instructions exactly, use the templates he provides, and if you really push, you could be in business in two days. I'd recommend working a little slower. I think sleep matters. And I think you'll have a better product to offer and be happier with your results if you aren't fried, grumpy, and racing against an arbitrary clock.

Based on my experience (and skipping all my bells and whistles) you could have something really nice set up in about four weeks, working part time around your current job.
